Winter cycling shoes

Full Carbon Fiber Soles

Carbon fiber soles offer the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio of any sole material. Closure systems

BOA Li2

The BOA Li2 dial is the standard closure on Lake's performance road and MTB models. Most Lake performance models use either a single BOA Li2 dial or a dual BOA Li2 configuration. Common fit problems and solutions

Forefoot numbness

Usually means the shoe is too narrow across the forefoot, the toe box is too low, or the closure is overtightened. First check your closure. If numbness persists, the shoe is likely built on a last that doesn't match your foot width. Moving to the Competition Last, Comfort Plus Last, or a Wide version will typically resolve it.

Hot spots

A localized pressure point corresponding to a bony prominence. The CX242 Wide's segmented upper is designed to flex independently around pressure points. Heat-moldable heel counters address hot spots at the back of the foot.

Heel slippage

If your heel lifts during the upstroke, the heel cup is too large or the shoe has too much overall volume. The Race Last and Competition Last both have tight heel cups by design.

Toe bruising

Upper pressure across the instep

How to measure your feet

In order to purchase the right cycling shoe it is important to measure your feet first. 

  1. Prepare your materials. Two sheets of plain paper, a pen or fine pencil, a ruler or measuring tape, and a hard floor.

  2. Measure at the right time of day. In the evening or after light activity — your foot at its largest.

  3. Stand on the paper with your full weight. Heel against a wall. Do not sit.

  4. Trace your foot. Hold the pen vertically and trace the full outline.

  5. Repeat for the other foot. Always fit to the larger foot.

  6. Measure foot length. From heel mark to tip of longest toe, in millimeters.

  7. Measure forefoot width. Widest point across the ball of the foot, in millimeters.

  8. Compare against the Lake size guide.

  9. Account for intended use. Winter shoes: size up 1 to 1.5 sizes. Triathlon: consider sockless use.
